Why Do I Need An Oil Change

Oil Change

There are so many exuses why to not get your oil changed. I don’t have time, it cost too much, I hate waiting in a dirty waiting room, not to mention the bathrooms and so on. Here at Orozco’s Auto Service of Fullerton we know how you feel. We and our families have all gone through those same frustrations and that’s why we want to set your mind at ease. First, the easy answers. Orozco’s Auto Service maintains the cleanest of waiting rooms and restrooms. We have severeral options for making appintments over the phone or online. You can also drop off your vehicle and we can drop you off at your home or office within 10 miles. Now for the technical question. What does an oil change do, and why is it important? Something as simple as an oil change may not seem critical to keeping your car running, but neglecting your vehicles oil can cause some serious problems. Here’s why you need to make sure you get an oil change at the manufacturer’s recommended intervals.

There’s a difference between adding oil and changing oil. If you check the dipstick and the oil level is low (most cars will start to burn a little oil as they age), then adding oil is a quick but temporary way to fix the problem and get back on the road.

Changing the oil is a bit more involved, requiring draining the engine of all the old dirty oil and replacing it with fresh oil to the specified level. You also need to get a new oil filter, which helps to keep the fresh oil clean by collecting dirt and debris that the oil captures on its way through your car’s engine. Oil needs to be changed when it gets too dirty to accomplish its mission of keeping the engine components moving smoothly. At Orozco’s Auto Service we do all this and give your vehicle a full inspection along with checking and topping off all fluids that appear low.

Another reason oil changes are so important is because the primary function of your engine’s oil is keeping the metal parts of your engine lubricated. This will prevent any metal-on-metal contact, which can cause engine damage that isn’t cheap to fix. A thin layer of oil on key components keeps them sliding smoothly and reduces friction that would otherwise harm the engine over time. Reducing friction also reduces heat buildup, which can also be a problem for your engine.

Additionally oil keeps it clean. If you look at the contents of a fresh bottle of oil, you’ll notice that it’s more of a golden amber color compared to the brown or black oil on your dipstick. That’s because it’s clean. As oil moves through your engine, it carries away dirt and grime that gradually turns the oil dark. Dark, dirty oil will not do a good job of lubricating or cleaning your engine. You should get your oil changed at the manufacturer’s recommended intervals to ensure that your engine remains clean and running smoothly. Luckily Fullerton isn’t particularly a dirty or dusty environment, but if you travel to that type of climate you should get your oil (not to mention their air filters) changed more often.

Lastly, If you see the oil change light illuminate on your dashboard, is it really a big deal? If all of your warning systems are working correctly, your car likely isn’t in immediate danger of being damaged, but the light coming on is definitely not something to ignore. If it’s on, your oil needs attention. It may just be low and need to be topped off, but if it’s time for an oil change, be sure to make an appointment at Orozco’s Auto Service of Fullerton within the next few days.

What To Do For Flat Tire Repair

Flat Tire Repair

Why is it that a flat tire only happens when you’re in a rush. It can happen when you walk out to your vehicle to go to school and there’s a flat or your heading down the road to pick up the kids and notice you’re car pulling to one side and is a bit sluggish or even worse, your driving down the 5 freeway and get a blow out. These are all sad situations to be in, luckily at Orozco’s Auto Service of Fullerton, we know how inconvenient a flat tire can be. Tires can go flat for a lot of reasons, including punctures, a leaky valve stem, a damaged rim or just worn out tires. If you experience a flat or low air low on air, bring your vehicle to a safe stop as soon as possible without jeopardizing your safety or the people around you. If you’re stuck on the roadside, turn on your hazard lights and raise your hood if it’s a safe place to exit your vehicle. Once you are safely situated, you can then change to your spare tire, try a tire sealer/inflator or call for a tow truck. If your tire is flat don’t try driving for even a very short distance on a deflated tire because it will damage your tire beyond repair and could destroy your rim.

The fact is not all tires can be repaired even if they just have a puncture. Here are a few reasons why some tires should not be repaired.

Your Tire can Have Other Issues
If your tire is too old or worn beyond the tread wear indicators, your tire is not repairable. If your tire has uneven wear and any of the metal parts inside are visible your tire is not repairable. If your tire has a bubble, a tear, or a chunk of road debris stuck into your tire, it is unrepairable, even if that’s not the reason why your tire went flat. Unfortunately, if your tire wasn’t safe before the puncture, the tire shop won’t try to repair it.

The Puncture Is In The None Repair Zone
In order to repair a tire the puncture needs to be about 20% away from both sides of the tire towards the treads. If your puncture is to close the sidewall and is repaired, this can compromise the structure of the tire making it unsafe to drive on. Tire shops need to keep customers safe, and they all follow an industry standard and will are not aloud to repair a puncture too close to either sidewall. Even if it’s close they won’t patch it to protect your safety and themselves from any liability.

You Drove To Far On A Flat Tire
Today’s tires have an inner structure for the sidewall that isn’t designed to support your vehicle’s weight when not inflated properly. Sometimes you can get away with driving on a flat for a very short distance – meaning a few feet not a few blocks. Driving 10 minutes on the flat will not only destroy the sidewall structure in your tire, but you may also need to get a new rim to go with that new tire.

Run Flat Tires
Most auto repair shops won’t and shouldn’t repair a run flat tire that has had a puncture. Although run flats are designed to get you to a shop or home when you have a puncture, they’re not designed to be repaired and continue in service after having been driven when deflated. As a regular practice we don’t normally recommend run flat tires.

If you get a flat tire or think you may have a slow leak and would like to have your tires checked, call Orozco’s Auto Service of Fullerton today at 714-525-3239. Keep your vehicle in good condition and ensure the safety of yourself, your loved ones, and those around you!

Do You Have An Automotive Brake Pads Problem

Brake Pads

Fullerton Brake Pads Replacement

Drivers in Fullerton are always coming into Orozco’s Auto Service and asking “what is one of the most important components of my vehicle?” They are the brakes of course, particularly, the brake pads. These are the crucial component that makes your vehicle stop when necessary. They’re also one of the components that when they wear out over time and are ignored can be a major safety risk. This is because we all know what it means if you can’t stop when you need to. The reason that they wear out is due to the fact that they use friction to help you stop.  Unfortunately all that friction takes a toll on your brake pads and eventually is shows. Brake pads made up of materials designed to slow your vehicle without destroying the brake pad and brake disc each time contact is made. Over the years auto manufacturers have engineered several materials for making brake pads. These are organic, semi-metallic and ceramic.

Organic – Brake pads used to be made of asbestos. Several years ago asbestos was discovered to be a carcinogen and associated with causing certain cancers and eventually fazed out of production. Organic brake pads made from materials like rubber, glass, and Kevlar too their place. They are softer than other brake pads, which makes for a quieter function. Thus they wear more sooner and create more dust and debris as they wear down. Moreover because these pads are softer, they don’t offer as much stopping power. Organic pads are generally suited for light cars that don’t see heavy use.

Semi-Metallic – Semi-metallic pads, sometimes referred to as metallic pads, are much more sturdy. As per they’re named they are made from metal, such as iron shavings or bits of steel wire held together with graphite. Metal usually makes up about 30 to 65 percent of the brake pad, thus the name “semi-metallic”. Because metallic brake rotors are hard, they provide good stopping power, but they put more wear on brake rotors / discs. The hard pads also noisier than organic pads.

Additionally metallic brake pads need to warm up before they are at their best efficiency. In very cold weather, they can take longer to get their maximum efficiency, so caution is always advised until your vehicle is fully warmed up. Metallic pads are a good product at a reasonable price, and provide good stopping power under normal driving conditions.

Ceramic – Ceramic brake pads are even more durable. They are made of ceramic materials, sometimes with small amounts of copper. The ceramics dissipate heat well, which keeps them from wearing. That can mean that the rotors take on more heat though, which can lead to rotor warping. Ceramic pads are also more expensive. Ceramic pads are also lighter, which, paired with their heat resistance, makes them well suited to motorsport or aggressive driving. They also produce the least brake dust of any type of brake pads, and less noise than semi-metallic pads.

When should you have your brakes checked

Some vehicle’s have brake-pad sensors that let the driver when the brakes should be checked via a warning light on the dash or a message showing when you start your vehicle. Some older brake systems have a metal scraper attached to the pads that serves as a warning alarm by squealing or screeching when they wear to a certain level. Even though the sound is very disconcerting and annoying it’s usually harmless, unless ignored. If the noise is less of a screech and more of a grumbling, grinding sound, the pads at one or all of the wheels may be completely worn, and continued use of your vehicle can cause serious damage to the rotor(s). If you hear grinding when slowing down you should contact Orozco’s Auto Service ASAP. You should never wait to replace the brake pads for weeks or months after the first warning signs,  considering functional brakes are a top priority. From a safety standpoint, they are more important than the engine. Due to the fact, a poorly maintained engine could result in engine failure. But poorly maintained brakes can be life-threatening.

To ensure that your car is always able to execute the safest stops, we recommend changing the brakes before they exhibit the irregularities mentioned above. Your vehicle’s owner’s manual should have recommendations for inspecting the pads at every oil change because the life of brake-pad can vary greatly, depending on your driving style, whether and driving conditions. Brake pads should always be replaced when they reach their service limit, which is usually measured at about 0.1 inch.

If your vehicle is showing any of the above signs or you believe your vehicle’s needs new brake or are not sure and would like to have your brakes inspected, call Orozco’s Auto Service of Fullerton today at 714-525-3239.  Always keep your vehicle in good condition and ensure the safety of yourself, your loved ones, and those around you!

Practical Tips For Headlight Repair

Headlight Repair

Fullerton Headlight Repair

Over the past few decades headlight technology has come a long way. Headlights, also sometimes referred to as headlamps, and come in a variety of types from classic sealed beams to modern halogen lights, xenon and even LED bulbs.

Good headlights will help you out in difficult weather with a wide but focused beam of light that can save your life from night tome road hazards or an oncoming traffic with limited visibility on a stormy nights. Where we once had to settle for dull and discolored car headlamps, now we can choose from the brightest white light or a 7-color RGB DRL Bar headlight that mounts on the top of your off-road vehicle, virtually erasing the darkness.

Today’s vehicles use standard or halogen bulbs, which are much brighter. HID lights use a high-intensity discharge to create white light for much safer driving conditions at night. You can also upgrade to LED bulbs. They cost more, but their powerful brightness makes driving at night safer and more comfortable.

Finding replacement headlight bulbs is crucial to a safe ride and heightened visibility. Unfortunately, not all headlights are the same so always consult with your owners manual for the specific lamp you may need. Do you need a whole replacement headlight assembly or do you have an H4 conversion and only need to find a headlight compatible with your housing. Replacing some bulbs requires dismantling parts under the hood. Sometimes an electric relay burns out and prevents electrical power from reaching the headlights. If this seems a bit overwhelming visit Orozco’s Auto Service of Fullerton our ASE certified technicians have the tools and the knowledge to install the right light the first time.

Don’t forget the headlight lenses
Over time and based on road conditions the plastic headlight lenses become yellow or foggy, which will block a lot of light. This is fairly common with todays older vehicles. Visit Orozco’s Auto Service and our ASE certified technicians can make them look new again with special cleaners and polishes, and a hard protective finish. It’s much less expensive than having the lenses replaced.

Below is a list of a variety of available headlights products

REFLECTOR HEADLIGHTS – These are the oldest of the bunch and were often considered dull stock headlights.

PROJECTOR HEADLIGHTS – once only found in European performance cars, but today they are common.

H4 CONVERSIONS – the most accessible aftermarket upgrade the average driver can make to their driving lights.

HALOGEN HEADLIGHTS – combine two gasses to create a more efficient lighting environment than old-school filament bulbs.

HID HEADLIGHTS (XENON HEADLIGHTS) – high-intensity headlights give the most visibility to the driver. After filling a glass tube with Xenon gas, an arc of electric current is run through the bulb to produce incredibly hot plasma-filled white-blue lights.

LED HEADLIGHTS – activate with a speed that almost makes them almost automatic headlights. small and compact, but unfortunately get very hot and need expensive components to make them fully efficient.

Headlights may be the most prominent lights on your vehicle but there’s may other important lights. Brake lights, back-up lights, license-plate lights, turn-signal lights, fog lights, and more. All these lights require regular inspections and maintenance. Additionally, Highway Safety Codes designate headlights and other automotive lights as part of your vehicle’s safety equipment. So, you can avoid a fine by ensuring that all your lights are working properly.

If you are concerned about any of your vehicles lights including headlights or you would like to upgrade any of your lights call Orozco’s Auto Service of Fullerton today at 714-525-3239. Keep your vehicle in good condition and ensure the safety of yourself, your loved ones, and those around you!

Fuel pump repair in Fullerton can be a bit complicated due to the fact that most vehicles it’s located inside the gas tank. The good news is that Orozco’s Auto Service of Fullerton is just around the corner and ready to help you out with any of your fuel injection issues, including sharing this important information. Your vehicle’s fuel pump is the heartbeat of your vehicle’s fuel system. Like your heart pumping blood throughout your body, the fuel pump sends precious fuel through your vehicle and if it stops so will your ride. Luckily, a faulty fuel pump isn’t very common in newer vehicles but when you get  a few years miles logged in things start to wear out.

As previously mentioned, most fuel pump are located inside the gas tank and attaches to a float and electrical connections that relay that information to your fuel gage. It sucks up fuel and sends it through lines to the injectors, which meter out the proper quantity for the most efficient combustion in your engine. Today’s fuel pumps meet manufacturer specifications for fuel volume. If it doesn’t meet up to these standards, you will run into all sorts of problems.

You may find that your engine temperature is higher than usual, as it struggles to keep up with uneven fuel supply. Occasionally, a failing pump will cause an engine to surge, because it’s no longer capable of consistent volume. You might hear the fuel pump itself struggling, which sounds like a whining or loud buzzing noise coming from your gas tank. What You Need To Know About Pre-Purchase Auto Inspections

Pre-Purchase Auto Inspections

Clutch Repair Tips You Need To Know

Clutch Repair

Fullerton Clutch Repair

Imagine cruising down the streets of Fullerton, California, on a sunny day when you suddenly notice something strange happening with your vehicle. You press the clutch pedal, and it feels different—stiffer and less responsive than before. These are the symptoms of a failing clutch, a scenario that many drivers in Fullerton may have encountered. In such situations, it’s crucial to understand the signs of a deteriorating clutch and where to turn for professional repair services. Orozco’s Auto Service in Fullerton offers the clutch repair expertise and a fantastic two-year, 24,000-mile warranty for your clutch repair needs.

Recognizing the symptoms of a deteriorating clutch is the first step to addressing the issue. Here are some common scenarios Fullerton drivers may encounter:

Slipping Clutch: When your clutch starts to slip, you’ll notice a sudden increase in engine RPM without a corresponding increase in vehicle speed. This can make it challenging to maintain speed and control, especially on steep Fullerton hills.

Unusual Noises: A failing clutch often produces strange sounds, like grinding, squeaking, or rattling, when you engage or disengage the clutch pedal. These noises can be a clear sign that something is amiss.

Difficulty Shifting Gears: If you find it increasingly challenging to shift between gears smoothly, even with the clutch pedal fully engaged, it’s time to have your clutch system inspected.

Increased Pedal Resistance: A stiff and unresponsive clutch pedal is a common indication of a failing clutch. Fullerton’s stop-and-go traffic can make this issue especially frustrating.

When you experience any of these symptoms, it’s essential to act promptly. Ignoring a failing clutch can lead to more extensive and costly repairs down the road. To ensure the safety and reliability of your vehicle, look for these signs:

Poor Fuel Efficiency: A slipping clutch can lead to increased fuel consumption, costing you more money at Fullerton’s gas pumps.

Burning Smell: A noticeable burning smell, similar to burnt paper or rubber, can indicate clutch plate overheating due to excessive slipping.

Reduced Acceleration: If your car feels sluggish, even when the engine is revving, your clutch may be to blame.
